DCVMN CEO, Rajinder Suri, recently participated as a distinguished panelist at the “International Conference on Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Technology Transfer in Africa’s Pharmaceutical Sector” held on March 25-26 in Addis Ababa. This conference served as a pivotal platform for fostering discussions on meeting domestic pharmaceutical production needs and enhancing preparedness for future epidemics and pandemics.
Mr. Suri’s session, titled “Private Sector Innovation in Africa: New Partnerships, New Horizons,” brought together esteemed experts including Dr. Anban Pillay, Deputy Director-General of the National Department of Health, South Africa; Mr. Dr. Michael Lusiola, CEO and Director-General of Kenya Biovax Institute; and Mr. Greg Perry, Assistant Director-General of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers. Together, they delved into critical topics such as applying lessons from past experiences in African countries to building capacity today, addressing challenges to enhancing Africa’s private sector’s production capacity and creating and strengthening new strategic partnerships.
The insights shared during this session underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the growth and sustainability of Africa’s pharmaceutical sector. By leveraging past learnings, addressing current challenges, and forging new partnerships, we can build a resilient ecosystem that meets the evolving healthcare needs of the continent.
